Jim Booth was a self-described generalist. He knew a great deal about many things and something about just about everything. He could converse intelligently with anyone on a wide range of topics and did so with a passion. He loved to discuss, debate and explore subjects and would challenge others to defend their positions. Talking with Jim was a little like an encounter with Socrates: he questioned, he probed, he made you think and he made you better.
The brief biography (to follow) is intended to remind friends what Jim's life was all about and how he influenced the lives of those whom he touched. It is also intended to give award recipients a glimpse of the person who inspired their award.
