Who May Donate

The James R Booth Memorial Award has been established primarily to provide an opportunity for former classmates, family and friends to make donations to a Fund in his honour that will be used to assist future students in Commerce at Queen's University. There may also be others who may wish to contribute because their lives have been touched in some way by ALS and have been inspired by the story of Jim's courageous battle with this devastating disease (see ALS).

How to Make a Donation

  • If you would like to make a donation to the Fund that has been established in Jim Booth's honour at Queen's University, you can do so by one of the following methods:
      1. Donate online through Queen's very efficient and secure online giving web site at www.givetoqueens.ca/bcom66
        • Click on the "Give Now" button.
        • Indicate the Gift Frequency (Immediate or Recurring) and enter the amount of your gift on the "James R Booth Memorial Award" line and click "Continue to Step 2" button
        • Fill in your contact Information, but leave the "Dedicate My Gift" line blank and click the "Continue to Step 3" button

        • Complete the credit card information and click the "Pay With Your Credit Card" button
        • Check your email for confirmation ~ your tax receipt should be emailed within the next 3-5 business days.
      2. Send a cheque made out to "Queen's University" to the following address, along with a covering letter indicating that the donation is for the James R Booth Memorial Award:
        • Ms. Shelley Hamill
          Relationship Manager
          Development & Alumni Relations
          Queen's School of Business
          Goodes Hall, Queen's University
          Kingston, ON
          K7L 3N6

  • The initial suggested donation for Commerce '66 classmates was $500, although it was left to individuals to decide what was appropriate to their personal circumstances.
  • Classmates may wish to consider adding to their initial gifts to enhance the value of the annual award. Given the current endowment balance (see reports below), the annual award is expected to be about $500. It would be desirable to see if we can increase the balance to about $26,000 to achieve an annual award of at least $1,000.
  • Donations may be made over time and you may want to consider making this award part of your annual gifting program.
  • Donations from other friends of the Booth family are welcomed.
  • You will receive a tax receipt from Queen's University for your personal donations. If the on-line payment option is chosen, a receipt will be sent within 5 business days.
